sharing printer

i use canon ip 1880 for my printer. and i download the driver from canon singapure like what i have found in the guru blog. two files which is cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.i386.tgz and cnijfilter-ip1800series-2.70-1.i386.tgz

and install them in my linux
$installpkg cni*

so it will install them both. if i not mistake.. .this installation will extract one ppd file which is describe the printer driver in linux. located /usr/share/cups/model/

after u have done that…
step 2 edit the smb.conf like the previous post
step 3 edit the cupsd.conf like the previous post
step 4 edit the mime.convs like the previous post
step 5 edit the mime.types like the previous post
step 6 restart the samba and cups

$/etc/rc.d/rc.samba restart
$/etc/rc.d/rc.cups restart

step 7 configure the jendela to add a printer
make sure the jendela (xp or vista) have some program in Add/Remove Program > Windows componen or Turn on/off windows component (in vista) and check the unix printing/share program. let the jendela install it for a moment
then go to control panel – printer – add new printer.
use the http command for adding the printer to the address http://sugi:631/printers/canonip1880
the canonip1880 was configured as a name when installing it in http://sugi:631/admin (in linux)
then use the original cd driver of the printer for installing the driver in jendela. we still use the driver coz the command in smb.conf said use client driver = yes.
and test some printing page.
if nothing mistaken, u will have ur printer on.

thanks to makasar slackers blogger for giving me some idea how to do it.
